The growing global demand for petroleum and prevailing oil price dynamics have elevated the recovery of heavy oil resources to a matter of strategic importance for the energy sector. Addressing the technical challenges and operational complexities inherent to heavy oil production has been a primary focus of applied petroleum engineering research in recent years. A substantial proportion of hydrocarbon reserves remains unrecovered owing to the characteristically high viscosity of heavy crude oils, which severely impairs their mobility within the reservoir formation. Thermal enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies provide a viable pathway for reducing oil viscosity and augmenting oil displacement efficiency through the application of heat to subsurface formations.
